When you’re a job, keep a job
As employers increasingly turn to mobile apps for their hiring and job posting needs, people who used to rely on a desktop job board are being asked to stay put.
Key points:A job board has been growing at a rapid rate since its introduction in the late 1990s, but the digital platform is proving to be more popular with employersThe Irish Times article is available in Irish only.
“Employers are looking for someone who can work from home, and are looking to hire someone who has the skills and knowledge to do that,” said John Connolly, chief executive of CareerBuilder Ireland, a recruitment and employment firm.
“With the technology on the mobile device, there is more flexibility and freedom, which is good for employers, as it allows them to do more of their job search, and get more work done, he said.”
We know that when people get out of the office and use their mobile device it has a greater opportunity for them to get more out of their work experience.
“The JobBoard app has gained huge popularity among employers and employees over the last decade, and now employs nearly 600,000 people, according to CareerBuilder.
It is one of several platforms that offer job search and job board tools that are increasingly becoming commonplace.
The Jobboard is available for iPhone, Android, iPad and BlackBerry.
Its users include many large companies, as well as smaller businesses, including local governments and non-profit organisations.
In a recent survey conducted by the National Employment Relations Board, over 50 per cent of jobseekers reported that they had used the JobBoard to find a job in the past year, while 42 per cent had used it to find their next job.
It also includes a “virtual recruiter” function, which allows job seekers to view jobs that are available for free to other JobBoard users.
But while employers are increasingly looking for people who can be flexible and adapt to their work needs, the Jobboard app has proven to be a boon for those who want to keep a professional job, Connolly said.
According to the latest figures from CareerBuilder, over 10 million people used the app in 2016 to access job postings, a 28 per cent increase on the previous year.
The company said that over the past three years, the number of job seekers using the app has increased by nearly 50 per per cent.”
Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in job seekers applying for the Job Board, and this has been driven by the increasing number of employers looking for flexible and creative people who have the skills to work from the home,” Connolly added.”
The app is the perfect platform for people looking for a job or for a flexible and personalised job.
“Many employers are looking at how they can use technology to attract new talent, and we believe the Job Boards app will help them achieve that,” he said, pointing out that the company has a presence in over 20 countries.
